Our Mission

Everyone has a story… we tell yours

The mission of SAPP is to share the inspiring stories of the people of San Antonio and bring us closer together as a city, one story at a time.

Our Vision

Through storytelling, the San Antonio People Project seeks to show the people of San Antonio how remarkable their stories already are and to foster the sense of community that is so vital to this city.

Our Core Values

  • Compassion
  • Empathy
  • Curiosity
  • Individuality
  • Collectivism

Our Critical Actions

  • Increased familiarity with others -> increased trust within community and decreased reliance on biases/ preconceived notions
  • Therapeutic listening via interview -> allow interviewees to process events that have happened to them and finding meaning in those significant events;
  • Mentorship, perspective, and skill acquisition -> develop more doctors who know how to interview well, recognize the humanity of their colleagues and patients, and use the principles of business and organizational management to better practice medicine moving forward

Our Why

In spite of the technology that has made communication easier than ever before seen in human history, the world that we live in often seems more divided and lonely than ever before as well. The same advances that have enabled near-instantaneous communication across oceans have also increased the pace of life to such an extent that we often no longer feel we have the time to get to know our neighbors just down the street. When we don’t know our neighbors, it becomes all too easy to misunderstand and even dehumanize those who are different from ourselves.

The San Antonio People Project seeks to address this problem by providing an outlet for the people of San Antonio to tell their stories in a setting where they know those stories will be valued. As we publish those stories in a way that is easily accessible in our fast-paced digital world, we hope that those stories will help the people of San Antonio know their neighbors better and also serve as an inspiration to those who are in the midst of finding out what their own stories will hold.

The stories that we tell about ourselves and those around us matter: they can bring us together or drive us apart; they can provide much-needed perspective during hard times or add fuel to already-raging fires. Through the power of storytelling, the San Antonio People Project seeks to accomplish the former, showing the people of San Antonio how remarkable their stories already are and fostering the sense of community that is so vital to this city.
