#worldmentalhealthday2020
“I remember vividly one of my first panic attacks. I was spending my allowance to buy bubble gum and miscalculated. Let that sink in for a minute. BUBBLE GUM.
I lived undiagnosed with generalized anxiety and panic disorder for 20 years. I graduated college with a Chemistry degree with honors, I got married, worked and was promoted several times at an academic institution. All while having panic attacks.
I finally reached a breaking point and sought help and was diagnosed 9 years ago. Even still, I felt this pressure to not need medication.
Well, it took some new stressors, but I’m back on medication and probably will be for the rest of my life. I can eat right and exercise and get enough sleep and surround myself with amazing people who understand, but I still have panic attacks. One tiny little pill a day and I’m still me, but I can relax. I can laugh. And, I don’t have panic attacks.
Why did I allow this to be posted on social media? Because, chances are several of my friends also have a mental illness. Maybe they are even struggling with seeking help. All I can say is do it!”
